It’s official. Here at Dragon, we make the Best Dairy Products! This isn’t a sweeping statement: our Vintage Cheddar with Leeks Cheese has been named Best Dairy Product 2018 at the Food Management Today Industry Awards. These awards recognise creativity, innovation and excellence in British food and only award the very best in the industry. This is a phenomenal achievement for Dragon especially as there is a stringent judging process with taste, texture, packaging, presentation and innovation all considered.
The Vintage Cheddar with Leeks is hand-pressed and is a perfect example of our Welsh heritage. The cheese is made with milk produced by our Welsh member farmers who own our dairy co-operative. The Welsh Cheddar is made the traditional way and left to mature for at least 14 months to ensure that this is the best savoury cheddar with a great depth of flavour. The addition of leeks, the national symbol of Wales, is a further ‘nod’ to our Welsh roots. The leeks provide an oniony tang to the cheese. It’s your choice how to enjoy this cheese. It’s just as good with a slice of freshly baked bread and a generous layer of Dragon butter or used as an ingredient in cooking. It’s a flavourful cheese so a little goes a long way in recipes. The award ceremony was held in February at the Royal Garden Hotel, Kensington. Shon Jones, our Chief Cheese Grader collected the award on behalf of the co-operative and met with award host and acclaimed Chef John Torode.
Awards like this are very important to Dragon as they recognise our products as ‘best in class’. What makes this particular award even more fantastic is that this is the second time that Dragon has received this title. Our Welsh Slate Cavern Aged Cheddar was named Best Dairy Product in 2016.
